To most of us, cattle are the most conventional farm animals, more so than donkeys. Afterall, beef is commonly seen in kitchens and in supermarkets. Luckily, we have rescued four oxens/beef cows and 2 dairy-depleted cows, but still owe the farmers tens of thousands of yuan. It had been a long and stressful day. Afterall, the bloody scene was unfamiliar for all the volunteers involved. So while we were filming, the butchers asked us “aren’t you afraid?”

Don’t be afraid, dear. We will take you home.(Please support us and change your avatar to this picture. )

Even though that experience was unpleasant to say the least, and after careful consideration we decided to not share the whole bloody process in this article. However, we are obliged to reveal the real source of meat, which is probably unknown to most people. Therefore, the photos and animations we publish here may evoke bad feelings, but we hope to use them to show respect for animal lovers and to call for animal protection through positive means. We sincerely wish that these photos will contribute to animal welfare, encourage more people to abandon animal products and view the relationship between human and animals correctly. If you are moved by this article, please forward it to those who are still eating meat.

Leading by Master Shi Miaowu, four volunteers——Jenny, Xiangyuan, Zhaorui and Meilv——headed for the abattoir before dawn. We followed the guide and came to a small slaughterhouse in the city of Jiaozuo Henan Province. Small as it was — a yard no bigger than 20-square-meters, they dismembered at least one cow per day. The butchers told us that they would kill 60 more cows in less than a month before the Chinese Lunar New Year.

We were too late. An oxen had been killed shortly before we arrived. His organs were just removed and still steaming.

They were all artificially ripened male yearlings. Theoretically they can live up to 15 years, but in the industrial farming process, their average lifespan is only 18 weeks. Their bodies and skeletons are burdened with too much chemical ripeners.

Meilv tried to close his eyes while filming, but failed.

As we were shooting, the butchers were doing their jobs quite adeptly on the concrete floor.

A worker was removing the bones. He thumped a big chunk of ribs with a hammer, then peeled them off skillfully one by one.

Another worker was processing the intestines.

A third butcher was rinsing the tripe (commonly known as "Niubaiye") on the ground. He rubbed it with his feet for 5 minutes or so, and flushed the mixture of water, blood and body fluid into the sewer.

Through a rusty and locked iron gate, we saw a yellow bull, who was waiting to be slaughtered. He was hovering anxiously and mooing in distress from time to time.

Just then, another butcher said they also had some cows and took us to another slaughterhouse less than 100 meters away.

There were two dairy cows over there. They have just witnessed the death of their friend and was waiting in line to be killed too.

They kept shaking and hovering in fear.

In this picture, the chicken and the living cow were in sharp contrast to the deceased one.

In the meantime, in the latter's the blood was still dripping.

By this time, the three rescued oxen had been loaded on the truck. We decided to save two more desperate dairy cows and bring them to Wuwei Sanctuary Park where they could attempt to forget all the sad memories. They had been maltreated as well as forced to conceive and carry babies for nine months, but could not reunite with their calves for ever. They were treated as machines, with their breasts just means of production. They had witnessed the death and dismemberment of their fellows when they could not produce milk any longer.

Thank you!

After a while of bargaining, the butchers unlocked the gate and lead the cows to the van. The two cows seemed to know that they had been freed and trotted out briskly. At the last moment, they looked back at us as if to say "thank you". (Please stayed tuned for further reports of these cows.)

She is listening to the Master attentively.

Then we returned to the last abattoir and loaded all the five rescued cows on a big truck. At this moment, we suddenly heard a bull crying——that must be the one to be slaughtered just now. He mooed anxiously, as if begging us to bring him along. Perhaps the cows on the truck had told him something, we thought.

The two dairy cows were put together with the three meat cows.

Although we had under-budgeted, we felt obliged to save one more animal friend. They were all so young. They didn't deserve this.

The next scene moved us to tears. When we opened the rusty gate, the bull thumped onto the van at once. In fact, he jumped on all by himself as if he knew he was free at last and could live without fear! Then to our surprise, he mooed happily for three times. We had never heard a bull crying like this——he was just too happy, so we named this clever calf "Jietuo"(to be freed). (Please stayed tuned for further reports of him.)

I am freed at last.

The surrounding butchers and villagers were all amazed at the whole process. They had never seen cows moving so tamely, waiting so quietly and crying so happily.

As a result, we had all the six cows——four one-year-old meat oxen and two six-year-old dairy cows——on the truck and returned to the sanctuary park finally. The horses and donkeys in the stables were all curious about the new arrivals.

They were unloaded one by one.

They jumped off excitedly.

They were running happily. (Please follow our further reports of the rescued cows.)

They were relaxed and death-free, so went to eat the hay immediately.

The donkeys were looking at them behind the barns.

Never again will you be afraid and forced to leave your friends. In our Wuwei Sanctuary Park, you can eat natural and additive-free forage, enjoy sunshine and the scent of earth, watch the sunrise and sunset, and be protected for ever.

We will release the cows rescue video in succession in the following month and hope you can understand our feelings. We wish that all the animals can live freely and fearlessly just like them. Therefore, we need to changes our lifestyle and food choice in order to liberate all the animals.

We put the live broadcast QR code on WeChat yesterday, which have been deleted due to its bloodiness, so we failed to release the fundraising message in time. But our volunteers created this picture at the scene and forwarded it to our WeChat groups.

They are two Holstein cows, also called Holland cows or milk cows. They have witnessed the death and dismemberment of their fellows and are going to be slaughtered because they can't produce milk any more, so we decided to take them to our sanctuary park. But up to now, we still need 60,000 yuan to save them. Please scan the QR code and support us. With the cows, we express our gratitude.

Until now, we are still short by 50,000. If you want to support us, please scan the QR code below.
