On March 27, 2018, an unusual life was born in a sheepfold in Wuwei Sanctuary Park. Her eyes were bright and her unique cry echoed in the sheepfold.

Under normal circumstances, the lamb will not always buzz, but she called for a long time. The lamb，with iconic black on the cheeks and ears, squatted and gasped.

On the first day of Shanshan, she could not find her mother

After a period of observation, we found that the lamb mother did not want her. The lamb recognizes her own mother, but the mother's breasts are flat and there is no point in taking care of the lamb. We tried to milk the mother sheep, but the sheep did not have any milk. However, for small babies, colostrum is the most important. If the baby cannot drink colostrum within a few days after birth, its physical and immune system will be easily threatened, with a mortality rate of up to 20%. .

As a result, Xia Dan, head of animal welfare at Wuwei Sanctuary Park, brought the young lamb back to her house and used the only powdered milk donated to start taking care of the lamb.

Lambs are born with "topping milk" habits to promote the mother sheep to produce more milk

After seeing the picture of the lamb, a monk specifically named “Cishan(Charity)” for the lamb. Whenever Xia Dan fed the lamb, she called her "Shanshan" and deepened her impression.

However, the situation is not optimistic. Shanshan has been having a diarrhea since the beginning of human care. At the beginning, it was a yellow fluid. After a few days, yellow was mixed with green. We constantly searched for goat colostrum around us and asked several farmers, but we did not encounter ewe that had just been produced. Since the symptom of Shanshan is very similar to that of pathogenic infections, so we purchased some montmorillonite, berberine, and tetradomic bacteria freeze-dried powder; in addition, due to daily diarrhea, Shanshan might didn’t digest what she drunk, so we continued to feed her sodium chloride, glucose, multi-dimensional mine, to maintain her bodily functions. Later, we finally received bovine colostrum powder bought online (no colostrum powder on the Internet!), and her situation finally gradually improved.

It was such a life and death situation in these two weeks after which Shanshan was alive now!

In nature, the survival rate of the sheep baby is lower than that of the goat. In addition, if the ewes have no milk, the lamb is almost 100% destined to die. But fortunately, Shanshan was born in the Wuwei Sanctuary Park and found a reliable human mother (Xiadan).

Whenever Mother Xiadan is at work, Shanshan will be stay quiet by the shoes of Xiandan; When Xiandan returns from the outside, she will stretch her neck and look out at the door; whenever her mother disappears into view, she will be anxiously yelling; when she wants to ask for hugs, she will restlessly flipping over the mats to ask XiaDan to pay attention to her; whenever she wants to drink milk, she will use the mouth, or small hoof to scratch the her mother.

Shanshan likes to stay by the side of mother’s shoes. When mum is not there, she likes to sit on the shoes of Mom; she likes to follow Mom, but also keeps the same pace and walks so close that you almost would step on her. She is considerate; she never disturbs mom when she sleeps or works.

On April 15, 2018, Xia Dan plucked up courage and sent the recovered lamb back to the sheep. She hoped that she would be integrated into the life of the sheep and become a qualified sheep. On that day, the good roar continued for one night.

After reaching the sheep pen, she continued drinking milk for a period.

But soon, she made new friends - little sheep Gege. They stayed so long together that for a period of time, when Xiandan came to the sheep's ring and called for Shanshan to drink milk, Gege would follow.

Shanshan quickly learned the skills of grazing, and also eat the stomach round.

On April 21, 2018, Wuwei Sanctuary Park participated in the Vegetarian Exhibition in Shanghai and launched the cloud adoption for the first time. Now, the new name for her is "Yangbao", in addition to her good friends and mom, she now has a new reliance. The life of Yang Bao is destined to be an extraordinary one because she has the conviction that she will continue to live. She has the love from all nursery staff and other animal friends.

We do not know what makes a lamb live, after having diarrhea at birth, and being infected with a bacterium, without colostrum within 1 week. It can tenaciously live happily and healthily after 2 weeks of continuous diarrhea. But we know that this is definitely related to "love."
